teinway® is synonomous with fine instruments. A.C. Pianocraft is synonomous with over 100 years of combined Steinway® experience.
Founded in 1966 by Ted Kostakis, the owners and craftsmen have bonded their unique and specialized talents for the past four decades to deliver "a distinctive rebuilt instrument!"
An impressive list of "Who's Who" in the music business as well as dignitaries from countries as far away as Japan, Canada, Israel and the Caribbean have found their way to this midtown Manhattan showroom.
Here in midtown, A.C. operations comprise two floors at 333 West 52nd Street where pianos have been bought or repaired for schools like The Manes College of Music,
Juilliard and The Eastman School of Music to name a few.

As quoted in MONEY MAGAZINE. . .
"One of the best-known rebuilding firms in the country is A.C. Piano Craft in New York City. Customers say that the firm's pianos -all grands- are as good as or better than new ones. They are expensive, but still cost thousands less than a comparable new model."
Alex or Ted will be proud and happy to show you their complete operation from the stripping room where old finishes are washed away to the spraying room where hand-rubbed lacquers are applied. In the woodshop, custom-made laminated pin-blocks and hand-made sounding boards of kiln-dried woods are manufactured and fitted to the highest standards. It all comes together on the workbenches where regulating, voicing, fine tuning and hand assemblage of stock parts and hardware is supervised by each expert in his respective field. Their specialty is Steinway, of course, but they are true masters of the grand piano and no challenge is too great!

THE DAILY NEWS, In the May 13, 1979 issue of their Sunday Edition recognized their reputation in an article by Madeline Rogers whereshe stated ... "Piano shoppers who want only the best brands should head straight for A.C. PIANOCRAFT INC. This neatly laid out mini-factory is owned and operated by four former Sreinway craftsmen (their experience totals more than 100 years) who rebuild only Steinway, Baldwin and Mason Hamlin grand pianos for resale. (They will rebuild other brands at an owner's behest, even though they believe few other brands warrant the expense of rebuilding).
Because they deal in the best brands, A.C.'s clientele is predominantly professional and semi-professional musicians. Pianists Lorin Hollander, the late Gina Bachauer, composer Samuel Barber and jazz great Benny Goodman all have dealt with A&C. According to Tom Martino, an A.C. customer can expect to spend $1000 to $1500 below current prices for new pianos for one of A&C's rebuilt models, most of which are 50 to 75 years old."
So what could be more gratifying than your personal, meticulously rebuilt, beautifully refinished, custom-tailored grand piano from the artisans in the old Steinway tradition. |
